Schoolhouse Rock

I'm absolutely mad about these lovely lights from Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. The finish and shade options are endless and the price points are beyond reasonable. What a perfect way to bring some personality to any space.

{J. Marx Atelier} Modern Bachelor

Recently a friend asked me for some advice... he wanted to infuse a little design and personality into his currently very brown abode. I jumped on the opportunity as most of my clients tend to be female... I thought doing something slightly more masculine would be fun for a change. I basically used most of his existing pieces, like the brown sofa, and large metal trunk as a starting point and added some color and texture to create a cohesive design. What an improvement!

Mirror Mirror on the Wall...

... who's the brassiest one of all? I can't get enough of Mono Cane's selection of amazing vintage golden beauties. I would take them all if possible, and that gold vanity mirror on a clamp base is especially insane. Totally go check out the rest of their goods, each piece is better then the last.

{J. Marx Atelier} Elevated Office

A few months ago I worked on a super fun little design project. An absolutely lovely client wanted to infuse a little life, color, and a touch of herself into her previously sterile and corporate office. We overhauled the furniture added a few pops of color, some organizational elements and an inspirational gallery wall... et voilà, a happy new work environment. Above is the mood board I created, and below are photos of the finished office. I'm loving the way it turned out. Go to J. Marx Atelier to see more photos of this and other projects. If you feel like your in need of a little space-lift, please contact me for more information.

Have a lovely weekend!!!

Make room...

... for a side table with attitude. These lovely numbers from Made Goods are perfect examples of how side tables can become little jewels in a space. Essentially, they are small pieces of art with a function... in other words, a perfect place to perch your cocktail.

Haus is in the House

First of all, I am so sorry for my lack of posts as of lately. I've been super overwhelmed with design work on several new projects. I wish I had something to share, but they are completely under wraps for now. As soon as I have something to show trust me you'll be the first to know.

Alright, now that that's out of the way, here's a bit of wonderful design from a new to LA store, Haus Interior. You may remember that gorgeous chevron pattern from their New York store (it was on the floor), it made it's rounds over the blogosphere a few months ago. Well, owner/designer, Nina Freudenberger, decided to open her interior design office/boutique just around the corner from my home about a month ago. I'm so excited... I already spot so many little gems that I NEED to own. And I'm so happy to know that they carry DwellStudio, which I have been obsessing over ever since they launched their new furniture line.

Press For Champagne

I friend of mine recently mentioned this fabulous London restaurant named Bob Bob Ricard, that has a button at each table that is simply marked 'press for champagne'. I immediately had to look it up, and I fell in love with what I saw. The bold mixed patterns in monochromatic shades of blue with polished brass trims and lush velvet curtains are all to die for. But that button just kills me. I'm thinking of having one installed at my desk for those nights I stay up late working away and need a little pick-me-up.

lovely lucite

While driving to a job site a few weeks ago I stumbled upon a fantastic store filled with lucite. Ironically, a few days later I met the owner at a Hanukkah party... small world, eh? Here are just a few of the pieces I'm coveting from HStudio... but go take a look, because if it's fantastic lucite pieces your looking for, they are filled to the brim. Oh, and they can do custom... dying.

And be sure to check out my January Houzz Ideabook for more lovely lucite pieces.
